Thank you to our Coaches Steve Donahue, Fran Dunphy, Aaron McKie, Billy Lange, Kyle Neptune and Zach Spiker, our special guest John Feinstein and our honorees Amy Fadool and Jim Stewart! We couldn't have done it without the support of our generous sponsors, guests, and volunteers! What a way to kick off the college basketball season!

OUR 2022 HONOREES

The Champion Award: Amy Fadool

The Champion Award is given annually to a volunteer or corporation that goes above and beyond to support the American Cancer Society. We’re thrilled to be honoring Amy Fadool with this year’s Champion Award at our 10th Anniversary Coaches vs. Cancer Preseason Luncheon!

You’ve seen Amy on NBC Sports Philadelphia during Sixers Pre- and Post-Game Live, as well as on the anchor desk for SportsNet Central several times a week. A three-time regional Emmy award winning sports anchor, Amy joined NBC Sports Philadelphia in January of 2009. She attended the University of Kentucky, but we don’t hold that against her!

We know and love Amy as the longtime host of all four of our Philadelphia Coaches vs. Cancer events. She’s also the chair of the Philly Golf Classic, which has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the American Cancer Society.

"Like so many of you, cancer has deeply affected me. I lost my mother to breast cancer when I was just four-years-old. My brother Michael beat soft-tissue sarcoma before his tragic death in an accident. I've lost precious grandparents and other family members to this dreaded disease. My uncle is currently fighting his cancer battle. I am not alone in this and they are not alone in the fight. That's why the American Cancer Society is so important to me. I want to help in the fight against cancer and be part of the solution - to end cancer forever." - Amy Fadool

We’re so excited to honor Amy’s commitment to the Philadelphia sports community and the fight against cancer at this year’s Preseason Luncheon!

The Speedy Morris Service Award: Jim Stewart

Jim Stewart Sept 2022.jpg

The Speedy Morris Service Award is given annually to a volunteer who embodies Speedy's commitment to Coaches vs. Cancer and the Philadelphia basketball community. We’re thrilled to be honoring Jim Stewart with this year’s Speedy Morris Service Award at our 10th Anniversary Coaches vs. Cancer Preseason Luncheon!

Like Speedy, Jim has been a great advocate for Coaches vs Cancer. He co-founded the Holy Ghost Prep CARES walk in 2004, which benefits Coaches vs Cancer every fall and just wrapped up its 18th year.

Stewart oversaw the Bicentennial Athletic League Coaches vs Cancer Initiative from 2006 to 2019 and was awarded with the 2014 Coaches vs Cancer Award of Merit in recognition of his outstanding fundraising.

In 2019, Stewart became the Athletic Director at his alma mater, Malvern Prep, and has continued his involvement in the Coaches vs Cancer program, with Malvern Prep consistently at the top of our fundraising leader board! Since 2004, Stewart’s schools have raised over $120,000 and counting!

"If I were to ask a group of people or an assembly of students to raise their hands if they DO NOT know someone who has died or battled cancer, I'd be willing to bet that less than one percent would raise their hands.  Cancer affects everyone.  Since my mother's passing from this disease in 2004, I have witnessed too many people battle or lose their life to cancer.  Specifically, my cousin who passed at the age of 50 around 18 months ago and a good friend earlier this fall.  However, I've also seen the growth toward treatment and a cure with resilience and ultimately winning battles with another cousin, one of my sisters and my sister in law.  I am proud of the two school communities that have joined me to raise money for the CVC School & Youth Initiative over the last 18 years - Holy Ghost Prep and Malvern Prep.  The generosity, prayers and overall kindness of the people in these communities during our CVC initiatives has always been humbling.  I look forward to seeing the headlines celebrating a cure for cancer in our lifetime." – Jim Stewart

We’re so excited to honor Jim's commitment to the Philadelphia sports community and the fight against cancer at this year’s Preseason Luncheon!
